Morning Activity Sticks

Financial Institution: Service Credit Union

This branch created a simple but highly engaging morning activity to help newer employees build relationships, strengthen communication, and create a positive team environment. With several team members having less than a year of experience, leadership wanted a fun and interactive way for employees to get to know one another while building a stronger team dynamic.

The activity uses popsicle sticks with conversation starters, wellness prompts, team building questions, and quick activities written on them. During morning huddles or team meetings, employees select a stick and participate in the discussion or activity together. The questions encourage conversation, laughter, encouragement, self reflection, and teamwork while helping employees feel more connected and comfortable with one another.

Examples of prompts include:
• Describe yourself in three words
• What is one win from this week?
• What did you want to be when you grew up?
• If you were a mascot, what would you be?
• What is our team’s superpower?
• What is our team’s kryptonite?
• Give someone a compliment
• Pass the praise and shout out a teammate
• What is one work habit you want to improve?
• What would future you thank you for finishing?
• Draw a team member and let everyone guess
• Three minute team stretching activity

This type of activity creates a relaxed and supportive environment where employees can connect beyond their daily responsibilities. It also encourages participation from newer team members and helps strengthen communication, trust, and morale within the branch.

Simple activities like this can help:
• Improve team communication
• Build stronger workplace relationships
• Increase employee engagement
• Support employee wellness and morale
• Encourage positivity and recognition
• Help newer employees feel included
• Create energy and fun during morning huddles

The activity can easily be customized with organization specific questions, seasonal themes, wellness prompts, or recognition focused discussions to keep the experience fresh and engaging throughout the year.
